The exploration of space has been a successful national priority for decades. We have landed on the Moon, built the Shuttle, and are building the International Space Station. But, we have only just begun to develop the real commercial potential of space. How large is this potential for the broader business community? What are the technology, policy, and business strategies required to harvest realbusiness value from space? How can we as policymakers, investors, researchers, and business leaders ensure that the commercial developmentof space advances at a pace and breadth that brings most benefit to the national economy? To address these related questions, NASA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce co-sponsored a 1-day National Forum on the Future Development of Space, held March 16, 1999, in Washington, DC at the U.S. Chamber Headquarters. This report documents the key findings from this forum.
